• Assists in identification and resolution of school-community problems
• Participates in or leads discussions or workshops
• Collaborates with school personnel to coordinate services to parents, and provide additional resources
• Participates with committees as members or advisers in matters concerning school programs and the community
• Participates in meetings/individual discussions with pupils, parents, community regarding District policies/school programs
• Writes or speaks on school-community relations matters
• Maintain an awareness of what is happening at the school: reading weekly bulletins, monthly calendars, newsletters, and other important school information.
• Attends professional development/training offered by the Local District Parent and Community Engagement (PACE) Team
• Performs related duties as assigned

Our Summer YS Plus Program goes from June 19th to July 28th and is from 8 to 2 p.m. daily. This program is free and all children are fed! To register, just show up with your children and fill out the paperwork.
Van Nuys Middle School Teachers and Staff were honored on Friday, May 26th, with an Appreciation and Recognition Assembly. Present at the assembly were Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michelle King; our Local District Superintendent, Ms. Linda Del Cueto; our Academic Chief of Staff, Dr. Frances Gipson; Board Members, and several LAUSD directors and coordinators. In addition, several state and local politicians were represented.
A special thank you goes to Ms. Candy Williams of Empowered Gifts. Without your vision and amazing energy, this day of appreciation and recognition would not have been possible.
Last week was Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week across the country. At Van Nuys Middle School Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks donated to our staff for morning coffee and donuts on two different days. The week culminated with a Teacher/Staff lunch BBQ on Friday, May 5th.
Thank you Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks for all you do in appreciating and supporting our teachers and staff!

System portal (PASSport). It is a one-‐stop online system that connects parents and guardians to important information about their child's education. It is secure...it is personalized to your child...and it is custom-‐made for YOU, our parents and guardians.

We have been contacted by many families that say they are not receiving Sunday evening phone calls from VNMS. After checking the system, it turns out that in most cases, someone has opted out of the message when the call comes in to your home or other primary line. To opt back in, call 855-502-7867 from the phone number that receives the automated calls and follow the directions.
We are currently offering Math and English classes for parents and guardians in our Parent Center.
Mondays: English Classes, at 8:40 a.m.

55 students were selected to participate in the Hippocrates Circle Program. This exciting program will introduce students to a possible career as a physician. It does not cost anything to participate, just some of your time.
There is a "Kick Off" event for the 55 selected students and their parent(s)/guardian(s). This event is mandatory because it sets the stage for the rest of the events. Students will not be allowed to continue in the program, if they do not attend this event.
The “Kick Off” event will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 5:30pm to 8:00 pm. It will take place at our school- Van Nuys Middle School.
Physicians and Administrative staff from the Kaiser Permanente, Panorama City Medical Center have organized a series of activities that will be held during this school year. Students will have the opportunity to meet some of the Kaiser doctors and learn about what they do. Our school is very supportive of this program. The Hippocrates Circle Program is a once in a lifetime opportunity! Remember, our community needs more doctors. We need you!
