Sound Body Sound Mind Fitness Center @ VNMS
Van Nuys Middle School now has a state of the art fitness center on campus thanks to a Sound Body Sound Mind Foundation grant. Sound Body Sound Mind was established in 1999 by Cindy and Bill Simon, Sound Body Sound Mind is a comprehensive physical fitness program established to promote self-confidence and healthy lifestyle choices among high school students in the greater Los Angeles area.
In partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), Sound Body Sound Mind provides each participating high school and middle school with state of the art exercise equipment, funding for professional development and the necessary tools to monitor student progress at each facility.
Thank you Cindy and Bill Simon for making a difference in the lives of children in the city of Los Angeles!

Jumping Over The Record / We Did It!!!
On Monday, February 1, 2010, at exactly 9 a.m., our school, led by the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD) and Jamba Juice, participated with approximately 80,000 children throughout the State of California in a mass attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the “Most People Jumping/Skipping Rope at the Same Time. We would like to thank actress, Gina Ravera, and musician, Brian O'Neal, for coming out and supporting us as we jumped to the record.”

Van Nuys MS improves API score by 20 points in 2009!
This year's 20-point increase in our API score continues a trend of improvement since the inception of STAR testing in 1999. Van Nuys Middle School has increased its API by 179 points overall since testing began. Thank you teachers, students, parents, and all support staff for a job well done! Go Mustangs!
