Volunteer Opportunities

Welcome Parents/Guardians to Van Nuys Middle School
WE NEED YOU ON OUR MUSTANG TEAM!
Our staff including administrators, teachers, clerical, paraprofessionals, custodial and cafeteria invite
you to become an active member of our student success team. As parents, you are an equal partner on
this team. Our goal is to ensure that your child is a successful student and member of our community.
There are many opportunities for you to become actively involved. You may participate in one or all
of these opportunities:
The Family Center is open every day and you can volunteer in the center to make calls home,
organize parent meetings or simply be available to greet parents when they visit the school.
School Site Council (SSC): This committee meets monthly to discuss school issues and determine the
funding for special programs and resources to improve our educational program.
Shared Decision Making Council (SDMC): This committee meets monthly to discuss school issues
and make decisions that impact our entire school.
Compensatory Education Advisory Committee (CEAC): This committee meets monthly to discuss
the academic program, financial resources and support systems in place for our students identified
Title I. These students need additional support to improve their academic performance.
English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC): This committee meets monthly to discuss the
academic program, financial resources and support systems in place for our students identified as
English Learners.
Parent Teacher Association (PTA): This committee meets on a regular basis to discuss the school�s
needs and discusses ways to support the school through fund raisers, referrals to agencies and medical
providers, and other services in the community.
